5 Tips for Great Meditation

Meditating is a great way to reconnect with the universe.

It’s an art that I’d like to practice more often in my life - nonetheless,we have a few tips to share with you:There is no such thing as a “bad” meditation. Even if you are unable to quiet your mind, the experience was good and a necessary step. Suspend your judgment.

  • Start small. Try meditating in 5 or 10 minute segments. I’m still unable to do a 30-minute meditation.
  • Make your space sacred. Light a few candles. Turn off your TV, cell phone, etc. Keep your animals away. Obviously, it’s easier to meditate when the area is free from physical distractions. Some day, you may be able to meditate despite any distractions - my college yoga professor could meditate on airplanes or in the mall.
  • Make meditation part of your routine. If you’re committed to integrating meditation into your daily life, routinize it. Perhaps meditate in the morning or just before bed. Liken it to brushing your teeth.
  • Take mini-meditation breaks throughout the day. From time to time, take a few breaths and quiet your mind. Even if it is just for 10 seconds. I love doing this.
