Indigenous Well-Being Massages

New and different well-being therapies, such as hot stone massage, are constantly being added to spa treatments.  There are a number of massages alone which utilize different cultural methods to reach those sore, illusive muscles:

An Indian massage called Ayurvedic is a very personalized form of massage.  According to Ayurvedic it is believed that everyone has their own "dosha" which determines a balanced lifestyle aligned with the elements of fire, water and earth.  In an Ayurvedic massage, the oils and techniques used are chosen for one's particular "dosha".  The style includes tapping, kneading and squeezing the muscles in addition to the more commonly used massage strokes.

A Balinese massage is a combination of stretches aromatherapy oils and acupressure to stimulate blow flow, oxygen and "gi" (energy).  Other techniques such as skin rolling, reflexology and kneading are also used.

Deep tissue massage involves finger pressure and firmer strokes.  These are applied to loosen tight muscles and get into the myofascia (the deep connecting tissue surrounding bones, tendons, organs and nerves).

Hot stone massage therapy is used frequently in modern spas.  This involves placing smooth warmed stones on key points of the body to relax the muscles before a massage begins.
