“All guests who present themselves are to be welcomed as Christ, for he himself will say: I was a stranger and you welcomed me (Matt 2535). Proper honour must be shown to all, especially to those who share our faith (Gal 6:10).”
Rule of St Benedict Ch. 53.
In an effort to meet the needs of people in our day, Mount Melleray makes its Retreat House available to those men and women who would like to make quiet, personal retreats.
No conferences are given at present but you can arrange with the guestmaster to speak to a monk.
Advance reservations – especially during summer - are requested, as is prior notice of cancellations.
While no set fee is asked of the Guests in keeping with the tradition of Mount Melleray – we ask those who stay with us to be reasonable with their donations as this will help defray the costs of running the retreat house.

Map & Nearby
Lismore Castle has been the Irish home of the Dukes of Devonshire since 1753 and is possibly the most spectacular castle in Ireland. Situated in a panoramic position overlooking the Blackwater Valley it has views over rolling, wooded hills to the Knockmealdown Mountains beyond. Whilst being totally private, the Castle is on the outskirts of the Heritage Town of Lismore and a mere 200 yard walk to all its amenities.
The Comeragh Mountain and Nire Valley Drives embrace the scenery and splendour of the mountains which form the spine of County Waterford. Panoramas include the Atlantic coast to the south and Slieve na Mban in the Galty Mountains above Clonmel to the North on the Nire Drive. Highlights on this drive include pre-historic sites, standing stones, fulachta and cairns at Kilbrien, Mothel Abbey, Mahon Falls, and, of course, horse riding, angling and guided walks from Ballymacarbry.
Lismore & The Vee Drive is a spectacularly beautiful drive where the scenery climbs and dips and changes constantly. Highlights include Lismore Heritage Town, The Vee viewpoint, the gardens and pet farm round Clogheen, Mount Mellary Abbey and Cappoquin House & Gardens.
